A Letter To My Younger Self

Hey kid,

We’re 32 now. We’re doing great, don’t worry. Even if admittedly we’re a bit worrisome nowadays.

We’ve been putting deadlines on things again. We’ve been pushing ourselves too hard despite all we’ve achieved and what we’ve been through. It’s probably coz we think it’s still not enough.

We’ve been too hard on ourselves lately because we can’t help but compare ourselves from our peers of the same age.

We’ve been a goal-getter, you know that. And it sucks. There were dreams that we once dreamt but didn’t go as planned.

We probably have to learn how to accept it now, you know.

A flourishing career? A husband and two kids? A family? Friends who will stick around?

Some things won’t really go as planned.

Some people would disappoint us.

Some just, well, won’t happen.

But you’d be surprised how far we’ve come. We deserve a pat on the back for a job well done. We are okay—even if sometimes we had to pretend we were, but we became okay, eventually.

Hey kid,

Let’s not lose hope, okay? It takes a lot of mind-conditioning before we’d actually believe that it’s just starting; that someday things will eventually happen.

We’ll make it happen.

We’re always the persistent one.

Keep dreaming. Ours are as crazy as it goes, anyway.

Love,

Camii
