She has always been the big girl.
Growing up, even on those rare occasions when I was underweight, I was still seen as the big girl. It could be because of my height or my bone structure, but I am usually the bigger one in the group. And trust me, I hated it.
“Lahi kasi kayo ng tabain. Mga malalaking bulas.” As if a curse I would carry all the time.
But looking back over those years, I realized that my body can be this and that. And so as other people’s.
I can be skinnier than this if I want to, but I decided to be stronger instead.
Big arms? That can throw a mean punch. Try me.
Big tummy? That’s proof that I had good lunch today, cooked by yours truly.
Big butt? Well, ehem, I worked hard for that. The squats paid off.
You see, I have always been the big girl but I see this as having a bigger purpose overall. And when people sugarcoat us big girls with “curvy girls,” I agree and say:
“Yea, I have curves in the right places.”
